Robust defence. Unwavering commitment.
Facing criminal investigation or prosecution is one of the most frightening experiences a person can go through. The right legal representation can make the difference between conviction and acquittal, between a custodial sentence and a non-custodial one.
Jonathan Ashworth has spent more than two decades defending individuals at every court level. His approach combines meticulous preparation with powerful advocacy — qualities that have resulted in acquittals and reduced sentences in hundreds of cases, including some of the most serious matters before the English courts.
We operate on the presumption of innocence. Our role is to ensure the prosecution proves its case to the required standard — nothing more, nothing less. We will not judge you; we will defend you.
What We Handle
Criminal defence services
Police Station Advice
Available 24 hours a day, we attend police stations across London to represent clients under caution or arrest. Anything said in the early stages of an investigation can be critical — specialist advice from the outset is essential.
Magistrates' Court
For summary offences and either-way matters heard in the Magistrates' Court, we prepare robust defences and represent you from first hearing through to trial or sentencing.
Crown Court Defence
Serious criminal cases, including those involving violence, drugs, fraud, or sexual offences, require experienced Crown Court practitioners. Jonathan Ashworth has appeared as defence advocate in hundreds of Crown Court trials.
Serious & Organised Crime
Complex multi-handed conspiracies demand exceptional preparation and strategic thinking. Our team has experience in the country's most serious criminal cases.
Financial Crime & Fraud
White-collar matters — including SFO investigations, money laundering allegations, and proceeds of crime proceedings — require solicitors who understand both law and finance.
Appeals & Judicial Review
If you believe a conviction is unsafe or a sentence was excessive, we advise on and conduct appeals to the Court of Appeal Criminal Division and beyond.
Common Questions
What you need to know
What should I do if I'm arrested?
Exercise your right to silence and immediately request a solicitor. Do not answer any police questions until you have received legal advice. Call us on our 24-hour emergency line: 020 7946 0208.
Are you available for police station advice overnight?
Yes. Our 24-hour emergency line ensures that a duty solicitor is always available, regardless of the time of day or night.
I've been charged — what happens next?
You will be given a court date. Depending on the seriousness of the offence, this will be in the Magistrates' Court or Crown Court. Contact us as soon as possible so we can begin preparing your defence.
What if I can't afford a solicitor?
You may be entitled to publicly funded representation (Legal Aid). Eligibility depends on your financial circumstances and the seriousness of the charge. We assess this at the outset.
What is a caution and should I accept one?
A caution is not a conviction but it is a formal admission of guilt and will appear on a DBS check. You should always seek legal advice before accepting a caution, as the implications are often underestimated.
